International Olympiad on English Language & Leadership (IOELL) 2020
International Olympiad on English Language & Leadership (IOELL) 2020 is the flagship event of Global Innovation & Leadership Center (GILC) which aims to integrate the basic aspects of English Language learning competencies such as reading, listening, speaking and writing with the multiple dimensions of skillset under the overall leadership skill, such as problem-solving, presentation, public speaking, research, time management, crisis management, etc. The module adopted in this Olympiad is first of a kind and its uniqueness appeals to students from all the countries. This year, the second installment of IOELL 2020 took place. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, the event-based program was optimized efficiently to fit completely into an online session-based program. This year, students from all the levels of education, namely-primary, secondary, higher secondary and event tertiary levels of education enthusiastically participated in the Olympiad. The participants were categorized in the following categories:
- Grades 3-5
- Grades 6-8
- Grades 9-10
- Grades 11-12
- University (Undergraduate)
The assessment rounds for the Olympiad were divided into two categories-
- Preliminary Round: It was a two-paper assessment test where both the reading and written skills of the students were judged. One paper was on reading, and the other was on writing. In reading assessment, participants’ acumen in grammar and vocabulary were checked. In written assessment, the ideas, innovative thoughts and free handwriting capabilities of the participants were considered. The layout of the round was the same for all the participation categories. But the complexity was different based on different categories.
- Intensive Round: In this round, the presentation, public speaking, crisis management, contingency planning, problem-solving and research skills were assessed. The intensive rounds were planned differently for different categories, considering their competencies and caliber.
International Olympiad on English Language & Leadership (IOELL) 2020 was scheduled to take place from December 16, 2020. And the event continued till December 23. The event breakdown is given below:
